The State of Credit Union Governance, 2023

We surveyed credit union board members, executives and supervisory/audit committee members to study the current state of credit union governance.

This study builds upon our landmark The State of Credit Union Governance studies, with a focus on learning even more about today’s challenges in the North American credit union system—as they relate to overall good governance and four specific elements: board member roles and responsibilities, trust, engagement and accountability.

Based on Board Governance Assessment data collected by Quantum Governance over nearly ten years, this report will reveal key findings on the current state of credit union governance and expert recommendations derived from six key areas of governance including:

  1. Vision, Mission & Strategy
  2. Board Structure & Composition
  3. Bylaws & Board Policies
  4. Fiduciary Oversight
  5. Governance & Leadership
  6. Supervisory Committee

The State of Credit Union Governance, 2023 Report is co-authored by Quantum Governance and researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and published in partnership with CUES.
